A warrant for Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler was issued on Wednesday in Mississippi, with Lawler charged with punching another wrestler during a Memphis Wrestling show last weekend at Sam’s Town Casino in Tunica.

Lawler, who calling the charges “absurd,” told WMC-TV Memphis that the incident started when wrestler Sal “Big Cheese” Corrente hit a fan. According to Lawler, security rushed down and created a distraction from the show, with Lawler then reportedly punched Corrente. On the incident, Lawler was quoted as saying, “It was just like a little hard punch. Sometimes it’s part of business. Guys get hit hard…get teeth knocked out…busted open. It just happens, and you show up for work the next day. You don’t go have somebody arrested!“

Lawler faces criminal charges in after law enforcement officials in Tunica County confirmed that the situation is not a “work” and that the charges are real.

A court date has been set for August 1, however that date may change as the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department does not cross state lines to serve papers and must wait for Lawler’s next appearance in Tunica (which could be in July) to do so.
