If anyone can get a transcript for this or maybe notes from the show, that would be great.

Rob Van Dam was interviewed on the Joe McDonnell Experience in the 8 o’clock hour. However, Rob did not make it to the studio, but he did the entire interview over the phone with Joe and Joe’s co-host Tim Cates. The majority of the conversation was on the Benoit tragedy, but they also talked about what RVD was doing now that he no longer is with WWE.
At the beginning of the interview, Joe asked how Rob was doing since it has been over a month since he took any bumps. Rob said that he was doing well and that his body is recovering nicely after all the years of taking bumps. He also said that he is enjoying spending time with his wife and that he recently got back from Hawaii , which is where he was when the tragedy happened.
Rob said that no one saw what happened with Benoit coming. He said that Benoit definitely was very different from what is being portrayed about him in the media. In fact, Rob said that what everyone said about Benoit was pretty much the truth and reflected how many of the boys felt about him. He said that it was scary that someone like Benoit could be one way to the boys but 180 degrees different in his private life. Also, Rob said that he hoped that a lot of the boys would say the same thing about him when, God forbid, he were to pass on. Rob also said that Benoit might have had a lot of demons and that they might have been unleashed due to some of the drugs he was taking. Also, Joe said that he was hoping that Benoit might have had something wrong with his brain like a tumor that may have had something to do with it.
Tim then asked Rob if he thinks that steroids had anything to do with it. Rob disregarded all the talk steroids had anything to do with the tragedy. He brought up the fact that the use of steroids alone doesn’t cause any problems, but when people abuse them then that’s when the problems begin. He also brought up WWE’s wellness program and he said that it definitely is working. He even said that it helped a couple of young workers who were going down the wrong path to get their lives together before anything happened. He also emphatically said that wrestling had nothing to do with what happened and Joe and Tim pretty much agreed that the media blew everything out of proportion. He said that everyone had their own choices.
The subject of Eddie Guerrero was also brought up. They talked about how steroids may have contributed to his death, but that his issues with substance abuse might have been a contributing factor.
Rob also was asked how he felt the business was doing and he said that based on ratings and merchandise sales that it is doing well. He also said that despite this that the wrestling business had gotten mundane for him and he was pretty much bored doing the same thing every night.
Rob also took time to promote his web site and he said that he was working on a couple of projects that he wasn’t at liberty to talk about, but that the fans would definitely be surprised. All in all, Rob sounded happy and definitely was enjoying his time off from the business.
Also, in a nice postscript; after Rob had hung up, Joe said that he really respects Rob due to his honesty. Joe also brought up the fact that whenever he had Rob as a guest on the previous incarnations of his radio show that Rob would often stay for the entire show and would be brutally honest with his opinions on the wrestling business. In fact, many of Rob’s opinions would get him in trouble.
