Thomas (Tom) Laughlin (born February 13, 1971 in Yonkers, New York) is an American professional wrestler currently working for WWE under its ECW brand. He is better known by his ring name, Tommy Dreamer. He was a mainstay in Extreme Championship Wrestling between 1993 and April 2001, when the promotion declared bankruptcy. Dreamer now works for World Wrestling Entertainment as a talent scout and trainer.

Career

Laughlin started wrestling in the New England area as Bobby Ocean against "Curly Moe" (a wrestler with a three stooges gimmick) in 1989. He soon changed his name to T.D. Madison to team with G.Q. Madison as The Madison Brothers in IWCCW, where they won the tag team titles twice.

He debuted as Tommy Dreamer in 1993 for the now defunct Extreme Championship Wrestling and was a mainstay there until it closed in 2001. He became known as the "Innovator of Violence" when, during the time that ECW was being aired on SportsChannel America's local affiliate, he attacked an opponent with a shiwala wash, a car-washing brush for which infomercials often aired on the same network that ECW was being aired on. He was well-known for bringing foreign objects such as a Kendo Stick to the ring. He was the first wrestler to kick out of Superfly Jimmy Snuka's Superfly Splash.

He had a legendary feud with Raven that started in April 1995 and lasted until June 7, 1997, when Dreamer won a loser leaves ECW match. Dreamer had not won a singles match against Raven the entire feud. Dreamer stole Beulah McGillicutty from Raven during this feud. He also feuded with Justin Credible and Shane Douglas while there.

He was the main ECW representative in the ECW vs. USWA feud against Jerry Lawler in 1997.

He is a former ECW World Heavyweight Champion, winning the belt in 2000, but losing the belt 18 minutes later to Justin Credible.

For his entire ECW career he used Alice In Chains "Man in the Box" for his theme song, and at ECW One Night Stand 2005 used an instrumental of the song performed by "Harry Slash & The Slashtones".

He is a loyal friend of former ECW owner and WWE performer Paul Heyman and followed him to WWE in 2001 where he is still to this day. He won the Hardcore Title several times, but lost it when he lost a match to Rob Van Dam, the match was meant to unite Tommy Dreamer's Hardcore Championship and Rob Van Dams' Intercontinental Championship. Also while in the WWE, Tommy Dreamer did an angle where he ate disgusting things. He also had a brief revival of his feud with Raven, winning a loser leaves Raw match on June 24, 2002 which sent Raven to WWE's Heat program.

In 2005, Dreamer can still be occasionally found wrestling on the independent circuit. On June 12 he joined several former ECW wrestlers to promote the pay per view ECW One Night Stand.

He is married to his former ring manager Beulah McGillicutty (Trisa Hayes). They were married on October 12, 2002 at Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester, NY. During ECW's heyday he was also romantically linked to Francine Fournier. Since then Tommy had his last match at ECW One Night Stand 2005 where he and Sandman fought The Dudleys who are now known in TNA as Team 3D.

He was recently used as a "special guest announcer" on WWE's Taboo Tuesday Pre-show / Heat. Again on the December 17th edition of Heat, Tommy was the fill in announcer with Coach replacing Todd Grisham while he was on vacation.

Tommy has been appearing recently in Deep South Wrestling and may be a talent scout there also.

Tommy Dreamer will be appearing at independent wrestling event in Timmins, Ontario, on Saturday, June 3rd, 2006. He is the only WWE contracted superstar who will appear on the card.

Tommy Dreamer has been confirmed to appear at ECW One Night Stand 2006, which will take place on June 11, 2006. He is also in charge of the event along with Paul Heyman.

On April 23, 2006 it was reported that Dreamer will be teaming with Paul Heyman to run the relaunched ECW, and recently signed a new Wrestlers Contract for WWE to take part in the upcoming relaunched ECW brand.

On May 8th, 2006, He made his return to wrestling on RAW in a triple threat match against Edge and Mick Foley. He was pinned by both Foley (who turned heel) and Edge and left in a pool of blood. The last time Dreamer was left in a pool of blood was in the back room couretsty of an unknown person who turned out to be Kane.

It is still unknown what role Dreamer will play at ECW One Night Stand 2006, whether it will be a fighting role or a purley managerial placement, maybe he will once again team up with The Sandman and once again show ECW still has what it takes.
