VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A mother was arrested after she allegedly drove her son to a school to fight with members of a rival gang. Sophia Elam, 41, drove her 16-year-old son and several adults to Silverado High School to fight with gang members who had been threatening her son in an ongoing dispute.
"(Elam) says she's going to make sure her son gets to class safely, but instead of doing it the right way, she took matters into her own hands," San Bernardino County sheriff's Deputy Heather Vallejos said.
Elam was arrested Thursday for investigation of child endangerment.
Five adults and one juvenile were also arrested when detectives searched Elam's house and the home of a rival gang member.
Detectives allegedly found a gun at Elam's house.
