OVW TV SPOILERS
by Mike Vicars and Will Turpin @ 9:57:00 AM on 5/18/2006
The first match of the night was a dark match between Seven and Sterling something. Seven would get most of the offense in his return match in OVW. He hit a spine buster for the win to a nice ovation from the Davis Arena fans.
We go to the monitor and Ken Kennedy is cutting a promo and says we are going to see the most gifted athlete in wrestling. He says that this athlete is a shoe in for the WWE hall of fame and that this athlete is making his in ring return tonight, also that he will be going for the OVW heavyweight title. He begins to do his Mr. Kennedy intro and is interrupted by Armando Alejandro Estrada. Armando says no megusta to Kennedy the heavyweight title. He begins to do his Osama intro and then smiles and puts his finger over his mouth and says does the Estrrrrrada into and says he will still be the dictator of los Kentukos. Kennedy looks at him and tells him to shut up. Kennedy then does his Mr. Kennedy into and Estrada joins him in it. Then Estrada says that this is for the Spanish version of OVW tv and its Senor Kennedy.
Our first tv match was Aaron “The Idol” Stevens vs. Mikey Batts. Batts brought a chair to the ring with him and as referee Goose Mahoney was pulling the chair out of his hands Stevens got in a cheap shot on him. Mikey then gets the action started with a dropkick to start the match. Mikey then counters as Stevens was going of a gord buster and rolls him up for a one count. He then goes for a cross body but Stevens is able to catch him. He then falls down and stands right back up with Batts still in his arms which was pretty impressive. Stevens then plants Batts with a back breaker. Batts would later hit a nice leg lariat. “Idol” finally is able to take advantage of the size difference by getting Batts in the corner and hitting several shoulder butts. He then poses for the crowd and gets some good heat. Batts would still fight back by running out of the corner and hitting a cross body followed by a dropkick and a neck breaker. Stevens gets up and whips Micky into the corner and Batts lands upside down in the corner. “Idol” then goes for a baseball slide in the corner and when Batts moves out the way he hits the ring post perfectly between his legs. Batts then hits a baseball slide of his own. “Idol” then goes out of the ring regroup. Batts tries to go after him on the outside but the ref stops him. While occupied with the ref Batts gets laid out by Stevens who hit him with a closed fist to the jaw. Batts is staggering in the ring dazed and gets rolled up from behind for the pin. Stevens is you winner. “Stevens then gets on the mic and says Louisville this is your idol and that’s what happens to anyone who says different”. He also says “idols such as me only come around once in a lifetime and that he will take that distinction over a couple of gold medal any day. He then calls out Kurt Angle. Kurt is not there. “Idol” then challenges Angle to a match at the big Six Flags show on June 2nd. “Idol says that you might have been a champion at Smackdown but in OVW Aaron “The Idol” is the man to beat”. He then finishes by saying “no interference just the talent that god gave us and the challenge has been issued”.
Our next match is Mason Raige vs. Boris Alexis. He is accompanied by Mr. Stronghall. Raige got in very little offense as Boris dominated this match up. Boris would win with his armbar submission.
We go back to the monitor where Shelly with Seth Skyfire is cutting a promo on Rhoni. She says that Miz had to go to the doctor to see what the little red bumps are on the face after swapping spits with Rhoni. She says that she does not have time for a reality show groupie and that she only has time for revenge. Seth then mocks Miz’s catch phrase by say hooraaa.
This sets up our next match with Miz and Rhoni vs. Skyfire and Shelly. This was Rhoni’s in ring debut on OVW television. Miz gets on the mic and says that Seth tv was a horrible spin off of Miz tv. He says Miz tv is like friends and Seth tv is like Joey. He says that he is the number on reality star on basic cable. He then says that he is the biggest superstar to ever enter an OVW ring. Shelly then starts slapping Rhoni repeatedly after knocking her down. Shelly then spits on her. Shelly hits her with a swinging neck breaker. Miz then runs in to pull Shelly off of Rhoni. Seth then runs in an hits Miz with a leg lariat. The match has broken down and the ref cant get control and throws it out by ruling a double disqualification. Seth then goes for a flying crossbody on Miz who is standing outside the ring. Rhoni pulls Miz out of the way and Seth hits the floor hard. Miz then starts stomping on Seth as he lay on the floor defenseless. Shelly would then help Seth to the back after Miz and Rhoni finally left.
Up next we have our main event of the evening with CM Punk defending the OVW heavyweight title against Ken Kennedy. Kennedy comes to the ring and announces himself in his usual entertaining way. They immediately lock up in the middle of the ring and Punk would get Kennedy in a rear wrist lock and takes him to the mat. Kennedy then gets up, runs into the ropes and hit a snap mare takeover on Punk. Punk would then get Kennedy in a head scissors submission on mat. Kennedy works out of it and goes for a superkick but Punk catches his foot and hits a clothesline. Kennedy would then fight back by getting Punk in the corner and hitting a face wash several times on him. Punk moves out of the way as Kennedy goes for the running face wash. Punk then hits Kennedy with the same move. Punk would later hit a flying crossbody off the top rope. Punk then hits a huge clothes line that literally turns Kennedy inside out. He goes for a pin but Kennedy kicks out at two. Kennedy fights back with a fore arm shot to the head and then throws Punk into the corner. He then goes outside the ring a bends Punk’s arm around the ring post. He then begins to stomp Punk’s hand. He gets into the ring and goes for the pin but Punk is able to escape just before the three count. Kennedy then gets Punk in an arm bar submission but Punk is able to escape. Kennedy would continue to work on the arm of Punk and got a couple more near falls. Punk and Kennedy then hit a double clothesline. They both get up at the same time and Punk hits him with several fore arms to the head and then a running bulldog on Kennedy. He goes for the pin but Kennedy kicks out at two and a half. Kennedy then gets Punk up in and does a somoan drop for a two count. Kennedy then gets Punk up in the corner and goes for a superplex off the top but Punk fights out of it and goes for a sunset flip off the top rope but Kennedy holds on to the ropes and does not go down. He then sits down on Punk. Kennedy goes up top and hits a swan ton bomb but Punk gets his knees up and Kennedy rolls on the mat in pain. Punk then locks in the Anaconda Vice and Kennedy submits. This was a great match that went about 17 minutes. Dean Hill then makes the announcement that CM Punk will defend the title at the Six Flags show against Brent Albright and that this will be their final match in OVW. He also says that this will be the opening match on that show.
This was an excellent show that was highlighted by the Batts vs. “Idol” match and the Punk/Kennedy match. This was a strong outing for Kennedy who was returning to the ring after his injury. Punk and Kennedy would definitely both make good additions to the new ECW. I definitely think that Miz needs more seasoning in the ring and WWE should keep him off Smackdown until he is ready. They are already at a disadvantage to TNA in the pure talent department. This is especially the case on Smackdown. Miz just needs to study his craft more and he has great people down in Louisville to learn from and with. If he does not doe this he will end up with a short run up in WWE and will just get dropped or lost in the shuffle.
