A letter from the Queen Mother complaining about the high cost of her clothes is going up for auction.
In an 80-year-old hand-written note to her dress-maker, she complained her clothes were "too expensive", reports the Daily Mirror.
She wrote: "Would you be very kind and look through my bill before it is sent to me this autumn, as I thought that a few items in the last one were rather too expensive.
"I think it would be a good thing if you would do this as my clothes have cost a terrible lot lately. And I shall have to get some for Australia.
"Naturally I want to get them from you and it would be most helpful if you could see that they are not too dear. I have got one dress which I cannot wear as it does not fit, so can you make me another?"
The letter is among several items from London designer Elizabeth Handley Seymour being auctioned in Exeter next month.
The sale also includes part of a robe Queen Elizabeth wore for her 1937 coronation and a brooch initialled ER.
A spokesman said: "It's a fascinating collection. It shows the Queen Mother did not want to be overextravagant at a time when ordinary people were having to struggle.
