Get me some parasitic worms, stat
In health advice that you'd really hope nobody would actually need, Hong Kong health officials have warned slimmers that consuming parasitic worms is not a recommended way to lose weight.
The warning came after adverts reportedly appeared on a website offering products containing worm eggs as slimming aids.
A spokesman for the health department noted that there was no evidence that the worms – an intestine-dwelling tropical parasite known as ascaris – were an effective weight loss technique. There was, however, plenty of evidence that they were an effective diarrhoea, vomiting and pain-inducing technique.
The spokesman also mentioned that: 'Ascaris infestation may also be fatal due to serious complications in human bodies such as intestinal, biliary tract or pancreatic duct obstruction. The worms may invade such organs as the lungs.'
So, yes, don't use parasitic worms as a slimming aid.
