During today's Subcommittee on commerce, trade and consumer protection hearing on Performing Enhancing Drugs in professional sports, Rep. Cliff Sterns (FLA) in his opening statement, in front of the players association heads and league heads of all the major sports including the NFL, NBA, and MLB, asked that all leagues should adopt a uniform testing policy that complies with the US Anti-Doping Agency.
Stevens also stated he believes that Pro Wrestling should do so as well and if they don't, perhaps the government needs to get involved to set the standard.
Representative Rush noted that World Wrestling Entertainment's Vince McMahon is the only invited member to the hearing to decline to invitation to hearings. He the stated the committee intends to proceed with a continuing investigation into Pro Wrestling mentioning the well documented Chris Benoit (which he pronounced Ben-oyte, so while obviously well documented, he knows very little about it, probably since Rep. Sterns is really the one who is after McMahon) situation.
Rush said that McMahon's excuse was his schedule conflicted with the date of this hearing, to which Rep. Rush pointed out the heads of MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA made it possible to be there. No mention of Jeff Jarrett or Dixe Carter or Dana White being asked to appear.
Rush "suggested" that McMahon make himself available in the future because they are (paraphrasing) not done with dealing with Pro Wrestling on this issue.
