The judges were both cruel and kind to the celebrities and to each other on Dancing with the Stars tonight but the ignominy of an early exit fell to Peter Urlich and Hayley Holt.

It was business as usual on episode three of the popular show which featured the tango and jive.

Monty Betham was told he was "very heavy and apish", and Urlich, who has a knee injury, was told he "pranced around like a horse"

But the first perfect score of 10 of this year's competition was awarded to Miriama Smith and Jonny Williams by judge Paul Mecurio for the couple's tango. They top-scored with 36 from the judges.

Judges Craig Revel-Horwood and Brendan Cole managed another verbal joust guaranteed to keep viewers talking.

Cole pronounced the jive danced by singer Tina Cross and Aaron Gilmore as stiff and hard. "Rubbish," said Revel-Horwood. "If you'd just shut it for a moment".

But they agreed on criticism of athlete Cory Hutchings and Rebecca Nicholson, who scored 20.

Urlich and Holt followed Geeling Ng and Brian Jones out of the show.

Netballer Temepara George, who was injured playing netball in a pre-season tournament, was another favourite with judges. She and partner Stefano Olivieri scored 33 for their jive.

"I loved it from beginning to end," said Mr Revel-Horwood.

Sports commentator Martin Devlin and Lauren de Boeck scored 28. Devlin was complimented for his confidence and kissing his mum.

Urlich and Holt were in the bottom two in the last show but in the first week were amongst the judge's favourites with 34 points. That halved this week to 17.
