Week 7 with Jim Ross
By JEFF WILEN
JAWBREAKER
Leading up to WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando on March 30, JAWBreaker will have some exclusive questions and answers with WWE announcer Jim Ross. Here is Week 7 with Jim Ross.
Question: March 30 is the 36th birthday of yours truly. Without a doubt, it'll be the biggest birthday party I've ever had. Do you think you can get Mr. McMahon to put a "Happy Birthday, JAWBreaker" on the jumbotron or something? If I could go back 10-15 years, I would have taken a drink every time you say, "jawbreaker," on Raw. I always hear it a few times every few weeks (and I heard it when Chris Jericho finished off Jeff Hardy on Monday's Raw).
Answer: "Did you ever hear the term, 'Bah Humbug'? The chances of you getting a birthday 'shout out' from the beloved chairman of the WWE is about as likely as the King deciding he doesn't like the opposite sex and that Ol' J.R. doesn't like BBQ. Beware of drinking games as they can be hazardous to one's health (for the record, JAWBreaker's drinking is non-existent nowadays).
Question: Any chance Festus will be used as a guest ring bell person at WM XXIV ? That would be entertaining.
Answer: "It sounds as if you are easily entertained. However, can you imagine the puddle of drool that would accumulate if Festus, if that is his real name, were to keep time for close to four hours?"
Question: What can we expect on tonight's Larry King Live show with Vince McMahon, John Cena, Chris Jericho and Floyd Mayweather? Will it be all WM XXIV talk?
Answer: "My guess is that Larry will be wearing suspenders, which the entire panel should be asked to do as well, and will likely focus primarily on WM XXIV. Larry, whose CNN makeup artist used to be Terri Runnels, might briefly touch on the recent Roger Clemens, etc., congressional hearings, but I suspect this show will be primarily about WM XXIV."
Question: Who do you think will induct Ric Flair into the Hall of Fame?
Answer: "HHH's name has been mentioned, but so have a few others. There is undoubtedly a long list of folks who would love the distinction of inducting Ric Flair into the Hall of Fame. This will be totally Ric's call."
Question: Why do you think the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase never was given the WWF title, and was he supposed to be crowned champion at WM IV?
Answer: "My guess is that it was simply a matter of timing, as it certainly wasn't a lack of talent on DiBiase's part. Of course, the best conspiracy theory is that it was 'politics.' I did not arrive in the WWE until WM 9, so I don't know all the backstage dirt of WM 4."
Question: There's been talk of Rey Mysterio being out a few months vs. six months. Are we going to get a quick Mysterio return like we did a quick John Cena return?
Answer: "Highly unlikely. It would be nice, but the 'miracle surgery' discussion making the rounds on the Internet sounds too good to be true to me."
Question: Which few wrestlers would be best suited for any upcoming IronMan matches?
Answer: "Start with omitting anyone over 300 pounds, and go from there. Raw has several wrestlers that could pull it off successfully, including HHH, HBK, Kennedy, Cena, Orton and Jeff Hardy. Flair, at 59 years of age, could still do the hour if he was with the right opponent."
Question: What about the tag-team division in WWE? Will it ever recapture the glory of the 1980s?
Answer: "My crystal ball is at the shop, but I would suggest that is simply a matter of talent development, which builds roster depth and the proper amount of creative devoted to this area. Can it be done in time? Absolutely."
Question: There's TV talk right now with Smackdown's future on MyNetworkTV and Florida Championship Wrestling on Sun Sports. Your thoughts?
Answer: "I think Smackdown's weekly viewers will find it on the new network, and Smackdown should become MyNetworkTV's highest-rated show within minutes of signing on for their first broadcast. On a personal note, I would most likely watch Smackdown as it airs more if it were on Thursday nights than Friday nights. The success of any young talent is based largely on 'TV presence,' and by having FCW on Sun Sports, the WWE's developmental talent get the chance to master the skills of performing on TV and building their live events. With WWE officials watching these broadcasts, it will enable these young talents to be better-evaluated and may prevent some from being 'picked too green.' "
