SECOND REPORT FROM SMACKDOWN/ECW IN NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA
by Bryan Willett @ 2008-05-04 14:32:50
Here’s a quick run-down of Saturday night’s card, with some thoughts.
1. WWE United States Championship – Matt Hardy def. MVP to retain
2. Kofi Kingston def. Matt Striker
3. Kelly Kelly won the Diva’s Best Body Contest despite Maryse actually getting a better response.
4. WWE Tag Team Championship – John Morrison & The Miz def. Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore to retain
5. Kenny Dykstra def. Ted Dibase, Jr. (most people went to the concession stands
6. Finlay & Jamie Noble (with Hornswoggle) def. Zack Ryder & Kurt Hawkins
7. CM Punk (with a fan from ringside as a special guest manager) vs. Mike Knox never started as ECW General Manager Armando Estrada came out and made it a triple threat, throwing Chuck Palumbo into the mix.
8. CM Punk (with a fan from ringside as a special guest manager) def. Chuck Palumbo & Mike Knox after pinning Knox
9. ECW Champion Kane & The Big Show def. Chavo Guererro & Bam Neeley
10. Batista def. Edge in a No Disqualification match. Fans had the chance to text their vote for a Falls Count Anywhere, Best of Three Falls or a No DQ Match.
A lot of people were expecting to see The Undertaker and were disappointed when they learned from various sources he was only scheduled to be at Tuesday’s Smackdown taping.
The arena was about 85-90% full, which was very nice. The show lasted approx. 3 hours 15 minutes. Crowd was very lively, and this event was well worth the price paid for my front row ticket. I only wish the local promotion, Innovative Hybrid Wrestling (ihwrestling.ca) could get this sort of crowd for the building they run in on a monthly basis. There should be more support.

Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada (spent 7 hours driving that day just for the event…damn heavy fog).
