Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has given birth to twins in a French hospital, her doctor confirmed.
The boy and girl were delivered by Caesarian section.
Dr Michel Sussmann said: "The parents and the babies are in excellent health. Everything is fine."
He said the C-section had been planned for a long time but the date was brought forward "for medical reasons".
The twins have been named Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline and were born at around 8pm on Saturday.
It is thought Jolie's partner, Brad Pitt, was by her side.
Knox Leon was reported to weigh five pounds while Vivienne Marcheline 5.02 pounds.
Jolie, who was admitted to hospital earlier this week, gave birth at the Santa Maria clinic of the Lenval Foundation in Nice.
The babies' first photograph is believed to have been sold to a US paper for $11m - but the money will go to charity.
Americans Jolie, 33, and Pitt, 44, moved into a 17th century villa in Provence earlier this year.
They have one biological daughter, Shiloh, who was delivered by Caesarean section two years ago in the African country of Namibia.
The couple are also parents to three adopted children - daughter Zahara from Ethiopia, son Pax from Vietnam and son Maddox from Cambodia.
