A POLICE investigation into the sexual assault and death of several sheep has been hampered because their main suspect has a twin brother who could also be behind the attacks.
Detectives arrested one of the brothers at his home in Dulwich, south-east London, after DNA was found on a pair of grey jogging trousers recovered by police from a farm.
But after raiding his home on June 17 and arresting him on suspicion of bestiality and possession of drugs with intent to supply, in connection with substances allegedly found at his address, police officers realised he had a twin brother and that the DNA could belong to either of the 27-year-old men.
On June 18 they arrested the twin brother on suspicion of bestiality at his home in Sydenham, south-east London.
Traumatised
A police source said: “The attacker left some clothes strewn across a field at the farm and we were able to extract DNA, but as the twins are identical they both have exactly the same DNA.”
Police had begun an investigation after two sheep were killed and several others traumatised in a series of brutal attacks which happened between March and June this year.
On one occasion two joggers told how they saw a man next to a sheep which was lying down in a field at Tongs Farm, part of the National Trust-owned Hawkwood Estate, in Chislehurst, Kent.
They reported seeing the man putting his clothes back on, a black polo-neck jumper and grey jogging trousers.
Both reported what they had seen to the area’s National Trust warden and said they thought the man was having sexual contact with the animal.
In a separate incident, a girl working at a stables reported seeing a man in a field with a sheep.
Both brothers were given police bail on condition they did not enter farm yards and the borough of Bromley, where the vile attacks happened.
