Bad News for Val Venis

- The United States Patent and Trademark Office has denied WWE’s request to register the trademark for the “Val Venis” name, claiming that the name refers to a living person and they need that person’s consent before trademarking the name. WWE asked them to reconsider and mentioned that the name does not refer to any particular person and the person currently portraying the character didn’t use it before being employed by WWE. They also said that since they created the name, they’re free to put it on anybody else on their programming if they want. The USPTO denied the request, saying they could find no evidence of a wrestlers name being passed onto another person. WWE has 60 days to appeal the decision.
