The 42-year-old was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital on Monday night after becoming "suddenly ill" during a sound check before a concert.
Representatives for Jackson declined to give details on her condition, but said she was ill and was "recuperating".
The singer is set to resume her North American tour on Saturday.
'Production constraints'
The cancelled Montreal concert was to have been Jackson's first appearance in the city for seven years.
Shows scheduled for Boston and Philadelphia on Wednesday and Thursday have also been postponed, although no information has been given on when they will be rescheduled.
Last Friday, Jackson cancelled the weekend Detroit stop of her Rock Witchu tour due to "production constraints".
The singer also announced recently that she is to leave record label Island Def Jam after just 14 months. Her first album with the label, Discipline, was released in February.
Janet, the youngest of nine siblings in the Jackson family, was one of the best-selling female recording artists of the late 1980s and 1990s with hit albums including Control and Rhythm Nation 1814.
