Tickets for WWE WrestleMania 25 in Houston, TX at the Reliant Stadium next year on April 5 sold 40,000 tickets for $4.8 million in its first weekend of sales, giving it the possibility to become one of the largest gates in pro wrestling history. It didn't turnout to be the first-day sellout that WrestleMania has become in seven of the last eight years. The stadium holds 69,500 for football, giving WWE the option to set it up for between 77,000 to 79,000. The top three price ranges, as well as the cheapest ticket prices at $40, are all sold out. First day ticket sales were promoted harder this year than any time in the past with commercials pushing the on-sale date on television all week. Another huge advertising campaign is expected this year as in the past, which has benefited when it comes to overall buyrates. Fans from 24 countries and from all 50 states purchased tickets to the show. There was talk within WWE going in expecting the usual first day sales selling out in minutes with most of the tickets being sold through Internet presale. While last year's show in Orlando ended up being heavily papered with 63,100 paid for a total of 74,635 in attendance setting a pro wrestling gate record of $5,854,590, many blamed the city for poor sales and felt Houston would be stronger since it is a traditional wrestling market. Others were said to be skeptical noting the economy and state of Houston right now. Of course, others simply relied on the drawing power of an event like WrestleMania feeling it was immune from any issues since it is the one huge event ever year no matter how popular wrestling is at the moment.
