WWE STUDIOS UPDATE, GOLDUST RETURNING, WWE WORKS NBC AFFILIATE WITH JEFF HARDY STORY AND MORE
As part of the promotional push for WWE Studios' next projects, all WWE events will be "sponsored" by Behind Enemy Lines - Colombia until WWE's first made for DVD film is released on 1/6/09. Immediately after that date, the sponsorship will change to the John Cena theatrical release "12 Rounds" in advance of that film's March 2009 release as part of the Wrestlemania season synergy.
Beyond AOL News, the Miami, Florida NBC affiliate, NBC6.net ran a story about Jeff Hardy being found unconscious in his hotel for several hours yesterday before realizing it was a WWE storyline and yanking the article. For all the talk of WWE trying to extend an olive branch to the media so they can "realize what the company is really about", working members of the media with a storyline that started out echoing the deaths of Eddie Guerrero and Brian Pillman in hotel rooms doesn't seem to be the best strategy in that regard. Chances are this will all be forgotten in a few days, but it really underlined how bad the company is willing to let the ends justify the means when it suits them as much as they are ready to cry foul when held under a microscope by mainstream media outlets and they can't have it both ways if they want to truly be taken seriously. Can you think of any other form of entertainment that would even attempt such an idea playing off Jeff Hardy's well known personal issues before "clarifying" he was attacked well into the $40 PPV broadcast?
Dustin Runnels has indeed signed a new talent contract (not a legends deal) with WWE, so expect to see Goldust popping up on TV soon.
Tomorrow's episode of ECW on Sci Fi will tape tonight prior to Raw. The only match announced thus far is Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Swagger in an Extreme Rules match.
Our friends at www.ringsidecollectibles.com sent along the following images of the forthcoming Jakks Pacific WWE Classic Superstars Series 9 Tag Team sets. There are several errors with these prototypes - the Rock N' Roll Express' hair colors are reversed and Davey Boy Smith certainly never wore cornrows as a member of the British Bulldogs in the 1980s:
