A £2 million original version of JK Rowling's latest book has been unveiled as Harry Potter mania grips the globe once again.

The unveiling comes as The Tales Of Beedle The Bard, the first new book from the author since Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, goes on sale to raise funds for charity.

All profits from the book will go to the Children's High Level Group (CHLG), a charity Rowling co-founded with Emma Nicholson MEP to help vulnerable children across Eastern Europe.

It is hoped total worldwide sales of the new book, which has been translated into 28 languages, will raise millions of pounds for the cause.

The Tales Of Beedle The Bard was originally produced in a limited edition of just seven books, each hand-written and illustrated by the author herself.

Rowling gave six of the volumes to people who helped make Harry Potter a success, while the seventh copy was bought for £1.95 million at an auction to raise money for CHLG.

One of the original books - owned by Rowling's first editor, Barry Cunningham - is going on show at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh as part of a Beedle exhibition.

Mr Cunningham said: "The book that's on display in the National Library of Scotland is my original copy of Beedle The Bard, one of only six that JK Rowling hand-wrote and hand- illustrated and bound and bejewelled as a special gift to the people who played a big part in the story of Harry Potter.

"I wanted to put it on display. I didn't want to just put it in a bank vault. I thought that real children should look at it."

The Tales Of Beedle The Bard was a volume of wizarding fairytales left to Hermione Granger by Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the seventh and final Harry Potter book. It played a crucial role in helping Harry to defeat Lord Voldemort.
