It has been announced that 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Kill Bill' director Quentin Tarantino's upcoming World War II film 'Inglourious Basterds' will hit cinema theatres in August 2009 in the US.

Tarantino has not released a film since 2007's 'Grindhouse', which he made with Robert Rodriquez, and hasn't put out a solo project since 2004's 'Kill Bill: Vol 2".

'Inglourious Basterds' stars Brad Pitt as a US army lieutenant leading a group of soldiers who operate behind German lines in wartime Europe and was inspired by the 1978 World War II movie 'Quel maledetto treno blindato', also called 'The Inglorious Bastards', by Italian director Enzo Castellari.
Reuters reports that the August 21 release date of 'Inglourious Basterds', which is presented by The Weinstein Company and Universal, is for the US and Canada only, with dates as yet undetermined for its international release.
