Overnight snowfalls have caused hazardous driving conditions and disrupted flights between Ireland and Britain.
Heavy snow is forecast for East Leinster in the next 24 hours.
Met Éireann has issued a severe weather warning with snowfalls of up to 8cm forecast for later today.
Road surfaces are very slippery in parts of the midlands and east Leinster, particularly in Wicklow, Kildare and Laois.
Aer Lingus has cancelled a number of flights from Dublin, Belfast and Cork to Heathrow Airport.
Two Ryanair flights to Stansted from Shannon as well as the morning's flights from Belfast City Airport have also been cancelled.
London Gatwick has been one of the worst affected airports in Britain.
The runway was closed for several hours last night, causing severe disruption, with scores of flights cancelled or diverted to other airports.
Both runways are closed at Heathrow, and Southampton and London City Airports are closed.
Stansted and Gatwick have re-opened but are dealing with a backlog of flights.
The Dublin Airport Authority says it has six cancelled departures and four cancelled arrivals, mostly to and from the UK.
The DAA says Dublin Airport is not affected by bad weather conditions this morning - but is advising people to contact their airlines before they fly.
Passengers travelling by plane from Ireland to Britain today are asked to contact their airline or to check their flights online.
Caution urged for motorists
Freezing temperatures here have made road surfaces very slippery.
Cork: Roads icy around Cloughroe
Kildare/Wicklow/Meath: Roads are generally bad in Kildare, especially around Kilcullen and into west Wicklow.
Kilcock is also bad and into East Meath (Summerhill, Trim).
The N11 south of Bray is very bad. Markings are not visible on some stretches - motorists should take extreme caution.
Kilkenny/Waterford: The road between Mullinavat and Ballyhale is extremely icy.
Roads around Thomastown are also very bad.
Offaly: There is some snow, but roads are not too bad.
Tipperary: There is some black ice in parts of the county.
More widespread and heavier snow is likely across Leinster and east Munster tonight with temperatures dipping to -2.
AA Roadwatch has issued a warning to road users to take extreme care this morning.
