A firearm and a quantity of ammunition have been discovered during police searches in Bangor.
Several houses in the Grays Hill area of the County Down town were searched during the operation on Wednesday.
North Down District Policing Partnership chairman Alex Easton said "people's lives have potentially been saved".
"I'm very pleased that the police have discovered these items and taken them off the streets," he added.
"There is no place in our society today for firearms."
