R&B star Rihanna has cancelled a concert in Jakarta due to be held on Thursday, show organisers have said.

Tour promoter Showmaster said the singer pulled out "because of an assault case involving Rihanna's boyfriend" - the singer Chris Brown.

The 20-year-old pulled a performance at the Grammys and another show in Malaysia on Tuesday.

Brown, 19, was arrested and charged on Sunday with making criminal threats. He was released on $50,000 (£35,000) bail.

It is the second time Rihanna has cancelled a concert in the Indonesian capital - she pulled out of a show in November last year after the Australian government issued a travel warning following the executions of the three men convicted of the 2002 Bali bombings.

Concert promoter Troy Reza Warokka told AFP he spoke with the star's management to confirm the cancellation.

'Traumatised fans'

"We spoke to Tony Goldring of the William Morris Agency and he said the concert had to be cancelled because of an assault case involving Rihanna's boyfriend," he said.

"He offered to reschedule but we don't think we'll take it up, not this year at least.

"This is her second postponement. Her fans are traumatised and we've spent so much money on production and promotional materials," he added.

Meanwhile, prosecutors have said they want more evidence from police before pressing assault charges against Chris Brown.

According to police, Brown and an unidentified woman got into an argument in a parked car in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles, which escalated as the pair got out of the car.

Rihanna's publicist has not confirmed or denied whether the singer was involved, only releasing a short statement saying: "Rihanna is well. Thank you for your concern and support."
