Gisborne Police arrived and dispersed the group. No arrests were made.
Several hours later, at about 2am, Wairoa Police were called to Apatu Street where 50-70 gang members were fighting.
The fighting was still going on when police arrived. Off duty police officers were called out to help after bottles and other objects were thrown at police.
