One of the more exciting revelations to come out of Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's keynote speech at GDC today was the announcement of a new Zelda game for the Nintendo DS. Titled The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, both the art style and gameplay of this handheld adventure are highly reminiscent of its predecessor on DS, Phantom Hourglass, save for one key difference: Link appears to have traded his boating license for a new job as a train conductor.

Other than the whole train thing -- which comes complete with a cannon for defending against marauders -- the first trailer for Spirit Tracks is about what you'd expect from a Zelda game. Item-based puzzles? Check. Screen-filling boss battles? Yep. A princess, potentially in need of rescue at some point? Oh yeah. The trailer does hint at a few new features, however, including what looks like a newfound ability to give commands to certain enemies.

We'll have more on The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks as we approach its planned release window later this year.
