Madonna has told a Malawian newspaper she still wants to adopt a Malawian girl to educate her and empower her to help people in the poor African nation.
The pop star told The Nation she could not say much pending her appeal against a court ruling that she was not eligible to adopt a three-year-old orphan girl, Chifundo "Mercy" James, because she has not lived in Malawi.
But she thanked all her supporters in Malawi and around the world.
Madonna said she wanted to provide Mercy with "a home, a loving family environment and the best education and healthcare possible".
She said she hoped Mercy would then return to Malawi one day to help the people of the country.
Madonna already has an adopted son from Malawi.
