Expecting more details of the Team Fortress 2 Sniper update to be revealed today? The fourth day of details on the next update have brought to us information not on new Sniper unlockables, but instead for the Spy as the first two unlockables for that class have been revealed. Not only that, but one other noteworthy detail comes from the official Team Fortress blog, finally confirming the rumor that the Pyro is indeed a female.
The first of the two Spy unlockables seems to be particularly ruthless -- the "Dead Ringer" causes the Spy to automatically cloak when attacked by anything that doesn't immediately kill him, leaving behind a corpse to lead the attacker to believe he's been killed. The effect lasts for eight seconds -- plenty of time to sneak to safety or to get behind the assailant for revenge, but also plenty of time for a Heavy to find the Spy with blind fire. The second unlockable is the "Cloak and Dagger," an update on the existing cloaking watch which allows you to go permanently invisible as long as you don't move. Stand still and you'll be able to remain cloaked for however long you'd like which will be perfect for scouting an area of the enemy base or camping out in an area while waiting for the enemy intelligence carrier to show up.
Valve has previously said that the one character update at a time route was preferable as it helped to make balancing following the release of the update much easier. But given that a massive influx of players playing as the Sniper (which is what happens each time a class update is released) would throw the game off-kilter more than maybe any other class, releasing the Spy simultaneously should help keep the Sniper in check.
