As noted before, last week's edition of SmackDown ended up being written mostly as the show was going on because Rey Mysterio injured his knee during the Superstars tapings. The original written show was supposed to have a Rey Mysterio vs. Edge main event that would have had run-ins, turning it into a tag team match with either Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy vs. Edge and Chris Jericho or Mysterio and CM Punk vs. Edge and Umaga. They ended up doing Edge vs. Chris Jericho in the main event and doing an angle on the show to hype that match. The CM Punk and John Morrison vs. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas tag match also wasn't originally planned nor was the Mike Knox vs. R-Truth match.
