As first reported exclusively in the Elite section of PWInsider.com, Batista went into last night's Extreme Rules PPV with what was believed to have been a torn biceps muscle. The injury was a factor in the short length of the Cage Match against Randy Orton where Batista won the WWE championship.
Batista was diagnosed earlier today with a torn tendon in the biceps. The good news there is the injury is no longer believed to be a full fledged muscle tear, which means less time out of the ring.
The tendon tear is believed to have occurred about 3 weeks ago but there's no clear cut moment as to when. A few people I spoke to believe it was simply caused by wear and tear.
As noted in the Elite section yesterday, Batista is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair the tendon tear tomorrow.
There is no word yet on how long he is expected to be out but those within WWE are hopeful it will be minimal, while yesterday they were expecting the worst.
