Mythic co-founder Mark Jacobs has officially moved on from the company he helped to create, leaving the newly-combined studio in the hands of BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka. Today, he took his time to say farewell to the company he said he helped to shepherd through good times and bad.
"Early in May, Electronic Arts let me know that they wanted to make some changes within the Games Label and as a result of those changes I have been out of the office (and out of touch with the team, game, etc.) since that day," Jacobs wrote in his blog.
"I wish [the Mythic team] nothing but the best of fortune going forward as my respect and love for them runs deep and I hope, is well known by them. I will never forget the effort made by those teammates during both the development of [Dark Age of Camelot] and Warhammer. Whether it was the extra late night and/or weekend efforts or simply the passion so many of you showed for our games, your level of commitment is something I will never forget."
Jacobs helped found Mythic in 1995. From there, he went on to contribute to many projects, including the game the company is best known for -- Dark Age of Camelot. On June 24, Electronic Arts announced that they were merging BioWare and Mythic, with Muzyka being tapped to head the new group. Jacobs was the odd man out.
According to Mythic, their team will remain intact, with the same structure remaining in place. The only difference now is that they will be reporting to Muzyka and new chief creative officer Greg Zeschuk. Jacobs' last day was June 23.
In his blog, he finished with, "During my time at EA I was privileged to get to know a number of very fine professionals and I have some fond memories of working with them."
"As always EA has my thanks for their interest in acquiring Mythic and in supporting the development of Warhammer."
