Variety is reporting that EA will produce the film with Temple Hill's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, with Eagle Eye'sD.J. Caruso set to direct. They are currently taking pitches from prospective screenwriters. Video game adaptations have historically struggled, but that hasn't stopped Hollywood from trying to cash in. Other EA franchises with films in the works include Dante's Inferno, Army of Two, Mass Effect and The Sims. In the meantime, Sam Raimi will be directing a World of WarCraft film. Dead Space was one of EA's new IPs for 2008, and as with Mirror's Edge it reportedly performed below expectations. Nevertheless, the publisher is moving ahead, developing both the spinoff Dead Space: Extraction and the upcoming film. Once EA and company have determined the film's creative direction, they will auction it off to a studio. Production will mostly likely begin in 2010, with the final product to follow sometime over the next couple years.
