The News: Joystiq reports that a Comic Con's Top Cow Productions panel confirmed the development of a sequel to 2007's The Darkness. The follow-up had previously been hinted at during a 2008 panel at the New York Comic Con, but this is the first official confirmation that the game is currently in development.
Our Take: The first game did respectable sales numbers and was generally regarded as a solid shooter despite some minor issues. In particular, most critics and fans felt the multiplayer mode was weak and gimmicky, and saw it as an afterthought. For the second time around, we're likely to see the first game's criticisms taken to heart, especially in delivering a more fleshed-out multiplayer mode.
