Twilight star Robert Pattinson will not receive protection from the New York Police Department despite fears for his safety, it has been announced.
Earlier today, it was reported that the NYPD would take over as the 23-year-old actor's private security while he films his new movie Remember Me in the Big Apple.
However, a police spokesperson has now publicly dismissed the rumours, insisting that such a move would be out of the department's remit.
The representative told The Improper: "We're not providing security. The police department does not provide it for actors. Specific to this issue, we are not currently providing private security for Robert Pattinson."
Pattinson has been repeatedly mobbed by fans on the streets of New York, resulting in his co-star Michael Welch expressing concern over the star's welfare.
