Michael Jackson's mother has been officially named as the guardian for his three young children, reports BBC News.

A judge awarded Katherine Jackson, 79, permanent custody of Prince Michael, 12, Paris Katherine, 11, and 7-year-old Blanket during a hearing at a Los Angeles court earlier today.

The matriarch has been caring for the children at her Encino, California home since the singer's death on June 25. She was also granted a monthly allowance from her son's estate that will be applied retrospectively to June and reviewed in six months.

The ruling follows an agreement between Katherine and Michael's ex-wife Debbie Rowe, who is the biological mother of the two eldest children. Blanket was born via an anonymous surrogate.

Under the terms of the new arrangement, Rowe will receive visitation rights and continue to collect spousal support. It is understood that Katherine was the only person to formally apply for custody.

The Jackson children have also been granted an undisclosed monthly allowance from their late father's estate that will be reviewed in six months.
