Men and women in Scotland spend nearly 20% more on deodorant and perfume and 15% more on toiletries than people in any other part of the UK, said mySupermarket.co.uk, a grocery shopping and comparison site.
Scottish men also spend more on male grooming lotions, the survey said.
But Londoners apparently spend the most on make-up online, paying nearly 20% more on eyeliner, lipstick and blusher compared with Welsh people, who spend the least in the UK.
Scots spend an average £76.24 a year on grooming products, people living in London spend £73.29, those in the North West of England spend £71.64 and those in Wales spend £64.50. In an average basket Scots spend 2.47% of the total cost on toiletries, the website said.
In one year people in the UK spend £71.63 online on toiletries and cosmetics from a supermarket and, mySupermarket said, around £1.7 billion buying toiletries and beauty products.
Jonny Steel, spokesman for the website, said: "Based on the amount that Scots spend on shampoo and shower gel alone, the average Scottish household is buying the equivalent of a bottle of shampoo every fortnight as part of their supermarket shop.
"The typical East Anglian buys three bottles of hair dye a year at the supermarket, showing that as the credit crunch bites, more people are choosing to 'DIY' their hair dye rather than take an expensive trip to the salon.
"It's clear that we're seeing a change in consumer behaviour as time-poor shoppers opt to purchase their essential toiletries and beauty products as part of their weekly supermarket shop, rather than spending their free time going to their local pharmacy or the high street."
Those living in East Anglia spend the most on hair dyes from a supermarket website, the research suggested. A total of 200,000 online shopping baskets were looked at between September last year and September this year.
