While Matt Hardy categorically denied his "being punished for the sins of others" was about his booking in the wake of Jeff Hardy's arrest, instead saying it was about his having to pad his colleagues' poor tips when they went out to eat after a SmackDown! taping, it was not as if no one within WWE speculated that the comment was meant to be about the Jeff Hardy situation. The Observer notes that even if Hardy was being completely honest about the reasoning behind his Twitter message, its superficial correlation to the more juicy situation was believable enough to make some internal sources skeptical.
