Thanks for stopping by and spending a few moments. After being on the road for 10 days, it's great to be home even though the Mrs. is in Pittsburgh to attend her Class Reunion and to see family. So that means I'm on "Cat Patrol" between my other chores which include J.R.'s Family BBQ stops and my Friday morning appearance on KOKH Fox 25's Morning News show with college football predictions. Then it's the OU-Baylor Big 12 opener in Norman Saturday afternoon on ABC.
Oh, yeah...we are still offering FREE SHIPPING on great deals in our on line store here on the site. But wait, there's more...
Got an email from old pal Steve Austin late last night. He's in the UK promoting his next film "Damage" which will be released imminently on DVD. I've seen the trailer and liked what I saw and plan on supporting Steve by purchasing this action packed, fight filled film when it becomes available. Many Austin fans waited some 13 hours to be a part of a signing there this week. Steve also detailed seeing his first soccer game in person and he told me that he had a blast and had a better understanding and appreciation for the game.
Another old friend, Steve "Dr. Death" Williams is battling cancer again as the deadly disease has returned after Doc had been cancer free almost five years. The cancer is in Doc's Stoma and surgery or radiation aren't options but chemotherapy is. Doc is an amazing man who remains steadfast in his faith in God and his unintimidating stance on beating cancer for a second time. Please say a prayer and think good thoughts about Steve as he once again finds himself in another fight.
There have been some emailers who have the idea that Doc trained Jack Swagger because, I assume, both attended Oklahoma University. Not true. I saw Swagger wrestle at OU and suggested that he be offered a try out with WWE and he got it and took the opportunity from there. Nonetheless, the WWE or any one else would have been well served to have their athletes be trained or influenced by a man like Dr. Death as there is much more to being a successful pro wrestler than simply what goes on between the ropes.
Hard to believe that there will be another WWE Pay Per View in less than three weeks in Pittsburgh...the home town of not only my soon to be bride of 16 years but also the great Bruno Sammartino who celebrated a birthday earlier this week. I really wish Bruno would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in the future if for nothing else for his many, long time fan's to enjoy. Happy belated birthday to one of the all time greats in the business.
75K is the asking price for Ric Flair's coveted NWA World Title Belt? Wow...good luck on getting that number to the party selling the treasure. This is not a positive development in the big picture, at least in my humble opinion, and it quite frankly makes me sad. But it is also none of my business.
I've heard of some big names that are likely candidates to host Monday Night Raw in coming weeks and many are most intriguing. It looks as if WWE is committed to this process of having a guest celeb from some walk of life host the company's top TV priority as an avenue for the host to promote their own products or agendas. I thought Big Ben did a solid job Monday night and from what I was told by those that were in Wilkes-Barre that the Steelers QB and his O-Line had a blast. I would estimate that Roethlisberger signed at least 100 pieces of swag for WWE personnel while he was at Raw. I hope to feed the big QB some JR's BBQ the next time that he's in Norman to see his sister play hoops for the OU Womens Team.
I loved the fact that the King had to enthusiastically endorse the Steelers QB consider the King is NOT a Steelers fan but a huge fan of the Cleveland Browns. King will also become a fan of Axxess Hollywood and Nancy O'Dell this Monday. :)
Last time reminders.....no, I don't think that ANYONE will ever defeat the Undertaker at a Wrestlemania so please refrain from asking that question. I don't know when Owen Hart will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame but he is deserving in my eyes. I DON'T have a vote for the HOF, for the record. No, I don't know how long title reigns last but the simple answer is until someone beats the champion without sounding like a wise-ass. Come to think of it, if I did know why would I share that info? I'm just saying.
Football news/thoughts....I expect that QBs Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow will play for their respective teams this weekend with Florida's QB likely to play much more than OU's. Bradford is akin to a MLB pitcher who is returning from an injury to his throwing arm and his status depends on how well his arm responds after throwing in practice this week. I hope Sam gets some reps before OU has to travel to Dallas next week to battle the powerful Texas Longhorns. Tebow should have had adequate time to recover from the concussion that he suffered and he is no doubt be medically monitored to insure his welfare. However playing in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is a nasty affair.
I invite you to check out my WWE Smackdown blog at http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/ which is available now.
Also my www.ouinsider.com 7 Points to Ponder blog is free and available at http://ouinsider.com/news/story.php?article=3687. I'm trying to set a record this weekend for the number of reads on this succinct blog and you can help me by logging on and taking a gander at it especially if you follow football to any degree.
Speaking of football, the specials airing on Showtime re: the old AFL are awesome. Reminds me of what WWE 24/7 Classics on Demand has the potential of producing for years to come.
I'm happy to hear that the early week reports regarding the severity of Rowdy Roddy Piper's illness were erroneous and that Rod is on his way to feeling much better. One of my fondest memories is having dinner at WM25 with Roddy and Ric Flair, among other pals, and listening to the stories. If a camera had been rolling we would have had "Gold, Jerry, Gold!" Feel better Hot Rod.
Smackdown is a really solid wrestling show this Friday night on the elusive MyNetworkTV featuring Rey vs. Jericho, J-Mo (I'm becoming very hip, DAWG) defending the IC Title against Ziggler, and Batista vs. Punk. Plus, the Undertaker, the NEW (thanks, Fink) World's Champ speaks about his next title defense.
Ladies, the Ryan Seacrest of WWE, master Todd Grisham is getting married on Saturday October 17 to a wonderful young lady. The nuptials will take place in Pennsylvania before the happy couple honeymoon on some undisclosed island in some undisclosed, warm part of the world. That means my partner will miss one SD taping, gasp, to actually enjoy this important moment in his life. Congrats to the happy couple.
To show you how sick I am, I haven't voluntarily missed a week of TV in 16 years with WWE and none in my WCW days either. That really deserves a "get a life" type of response. No, I not bragging or wanting to break my arm patting myself on the back as Gorilla Monsoon used to tell people. God, I miss that guy. Which reminds me that I need to find how how Bobby Heenan is feeling.
Remember to take advantage of our FREE SHIPPING in our on line store if you can. We will also be posting some of our new, TV commercials for J.R.'s Family BBQ on the site in the next few days that you might find entertaining.
Be well.
