Lady GaGa and JLS are among five acts to have picked up a hat-trick of nominations for this year's Brit Awards.

Florence and the Machine, Lily Allen and Pixie Lott will also compete for three prizes at the annual awards ceremony, which will take place at London's Earls Court on February 16.

GaGa received nominations in all three categories for which she is eligible - 'International Female', 'International Album' and 'International Breakthrough Act' - while JLS have been recognised in the 'British Group', 'British Breakthrough Act' and 'British Single' categories.

The boyband's rivals for the 'British Single' prize include fellow X Factor stars Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry, as well as McElderry's mentor on the show Cheryl Cole.

Dizzee Rascal, La Roux, Kasabian and Paolo Nutini have all picked up two nominations in the 'British' categories. Jay-Z, Empire Of The Sun and Animal Collective will each compete for a pair of 'International' prizes.

Robbie Williams will take home the 'Outstanding Contribution to Music' gong while also competing in the 'British Male' category.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the prestigious music awards, a pair of one-off retrospective prizes have been announced.

Acts including Michael Jackson, the Spice Girls, Girls Aloud, Paul McCartney and Kylie Minogue will battle for the 'Brits Performance of 30th Year' gong. Records by ten British artists - Coldplay, Oasis and Dido among them - have been recognised in the 'Brits Album of 30 Years' category.
