High-ranking WWE executive Donna Goldsmith says one of her biggest challenges as a WWE executive is “dispelling misconceptions” about WWE that includes the use of “pro wrestling” to describe WWE’s business. “That term just doesn’t give us the credibility we deserve,” Goldsmith told Continental Airlines for a story focused on the female executives in WWE’s corporate infrastructure. “The magnitude and size of our business makes us much more than professional wrestling.”
The female executives interviewed for the story, including Stephanie McMahon, reinforced the company’s belief that they are an “entertainment company” and not to be confused with simply being a wrestling promotion. “I grew up in a world of midgets and giants and everything in between,” McMahon said. “I’d say it uniquely qualifies me for our particular business.”
