Hollywood super couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have separated and signed a $366 million deal which will see their fortune split and children set up for life, reports say.

The pair — dubbed "Brangelina" by fans and the world press — signed legal papers earlier this month, the News of the World reports.

The agreement states they will have joint custody of their six children — three of whom are adopted — but that they will live with Jolie.

The papers also reveal their joint $366 million fortune, which includes mansions in France, New Orleans and California, will be split equally.

Unnamed sources said the couple signed the papers in early January with the aid of a high-profile Beverly Hills-based divorce lawyer regarded as "the best in the business".

"The contract was like a tailor-made version of a pre-nuptial agreement except for an unmarried couple's split," the source was quoted as saying.

"It seemed clear they want the world to know they'll both play a part in the upbringing of the children."

Associates for both actors refused to comment, with one saying it was a "private matter".

An announcement is tipped to be made within weeks, ending months of speculation that the couple's relationship is on the rocks.

The National Enquirer published a story last week about a fight Jolie and Pitt had at a trendy New York restaurant called Alto on January 6.

The magazine said the fight was the final straw with the couple agreeing later that night to end their six-year relationship, which began on the set of the thriller Mr and Mrs Smith.

If the reports are correct, this will be Pitt's third very public break-up.

In 2005, he split with Friends starlet Jennifer Aniston after four-and-a-half years of marriage.

The 46-year-old Inglourious Basterds star was engaged to Gwyneth Paltrow before that.

Jolie, 34, is no stranger to break-ups either: she split with Monster's Ball star Billy-Bob Thornton in 2003 and Trainspotting actor Johnny Lee Miller in 1999.
