Movie website Cinematical.com features a fan rant questioning the success of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's movie career. The article flashes back to Johnson's 2003 action movie "The Rundown," which featured a cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger, who told Johnson to "Have fun" in a symbolic passing of the "action hero" torch. Since then, Johnson has only done two other action movies (Walking Tall and Doom) and has settled into a career of comedies and kids movies.

The author questions whether the era of action movie stars is over and suggests that The Rock's upcoming return to WWE is a result of his movie career not taking off as he had hoped.

That's good news. He should have never fully left WWE the last 5 years.

Some of hollywood's elite gets paid 20 million a movie... so the Rock isn't doing all that bad. I just think he might be under the impression movies aren't working out so well now that disney has their hands on him. He might be thinking his only options for roles now are going to be comedy and kids, and that may not be what he is looking for. I know I wouldn't...

I highly doubt he gets 10mil per movie. That's kinda a lot for somebody like him.

10Mil is actually a lot, I highly doubt Rock gets paid that much per movie. I would say he gets probably around 5Mil.

@ Big Evil - Will Smith is the only person making 20Mil plus per movie. He is the highest paid actor. He gets 20Mil per movie and sometimes 10% of Gross depending on the movie. He has made at least 20 mil for every movie he has done since Ali. Plus the 10% he got from gross on a few movies. He's basically loaded with $$$$ to make the story short lol.

Actually, the only true failure the Rock has had with Disney is the Tooth Fairy. He does get paid a lot of money to do these films and has had mixed success in Hollywood, not just failure. Most likely this person is just a fan of action films, but after Doom (a failure) the Rock decided to go in another direction and recently he has said he will do it again as he does not want to get type cast in one type of role. The only question is what is next? Romantic Comedies?
As far as WWE, perhaps he has seen that other Hollywood people, like Jeremy Piven have appeared with no detriment to their acting careers and now realizes that "sports entertainment" will not hurt him in movie companies' eyes...or he feels established enough to try a short stint and then back to film. Who knows, but maybe the person who posted that original post should have maybe pulled his head out and looked to see what was actually happening in the world of the Rock before he spoke.
