Miami Still Vying To Host Future WrestleMania

One day after the city of Phoenix played host to the annual Super Bowl of professional wrestling, WrestleMania, Variety reports that 14 cities, including Miami, are competing to land WrestleMania through 2014. The reason behind the intense competition is simple, money.

Orlando and Houston have hosted two of the last three Wrestlemania's and both saw a $50 million boost to their local economies from the influx of wrestling fans. The increase in the economy is from hotel room bookings, restaurants, and tickets to local attractions.

Case in point, WrestleMania 25 in Houston earned the WWE $6.9 million. It was the company's highest grossing event ever and it packed over 72,000 fans into Houston's Reliant Stadium. Forty-five thousand of those fans came from other states or countries and stayed at least three nights in the area. Combine the gate with an estimated $21 million in pay-per-view buys, and the event pulled in just under $30 million for the one night event.

Miami narrowly lost out to Atlanta on hosting WrestleMania 27. Variety reports the Miami-Dade Sports Commission offered usage of the Miami Beach Convention Center, the American Airlines Arena, and Land Shark Stadium.

Miami is now back in the hunt to host WrestleMania 28 or a future WrestleMania. But South Florida faces competition from Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, Tornoto, Tampa, Vancouver, New Orleans, St. Louis, and Jacksonville.
