Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed that the death of his friend Heath Ledger prompted him to re-evaluate his life.
Speaking to GQ, the actor said that he was devastated after Ledger's death from an accidental drug overdose in January 2008.
The 29-year-old claimed that his Brokeback Mountain co-star's passing gave him the courage to make positive personal changes, admitting that he had become too focused on his career.
"Life, I didn't totally understand. And I think I was afraid of life. And I had success in my work, enough success that you could keep going back there," he said.
"But after [Ledger's death] happened... I think I recognised that it was work. And I recognised that this is for real."
