The UFC have signed Welterweight prospect, Amilcar Alves to face Mike Pierce in a preliminary card bout at UFC 118 in Boston on August 28.
Alves is a member of the Nova Uniao academy, which currently houses former UFC fighter Thales Leites, WEC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo and UFC Lightweight Ronnys Torres. Alves is 11-1 in his MMA career with his only loss coming via submission against Fernando Paulon in 2007, but the Brazilian bounced back with eight straight wins to earn a shot in the UFC.
Mike Pierce, last defeated Julio Paulino via unanimous decision at UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones in March. His previous fight before that he lost via Unanimous Decision to UFC Welterweight contender, Jon Fitch at UFC 107.
UFC 118 will take place in Boston, Massachusetts on August 28 and will feature a Lightweight title rematch between Frankie Edgar and B.J. Penn and a bout between professional boxer James Toney and UFC "Hall of Famer" Randy Couture, as well as a Lightweight showdown between Boston native, Kenny Florian and Lightweight contender, Gray Maynard.
