The gang intended to burn down the house of a man who was having an affair with one of their sisters.
However, they firebombed the wrong house in Blackburn, Lancashire, and killed a married couple.
Abdullah Mohammed, 41, and his 39-year-old wife Aysha were overcome by smoke at their home and later died in hospital.
Preston Crown Court judge Mr Justice Henriques said it was "nearly impossible to imagine a worse case of arson than this".
"You have wreaked devastation on a blameless, devout family," he told the four men.
"They just happened to live at an address one digit removed from your intended target."
The man who ordered the arson attack, 21-year-old Hisamuddin Ibrahim, was jailed for a minimum of 28 years.
His accomplices - Habib Iqbal, 25, Sadek Miah, 23, and 19-year-old Mohammed Miah - were sentenced to no less than 19 years' jail.
Ibrahim was furious when he discovered his married sister, Hafija Gorji, was seeing another man.
The London Underground systems operator ordered his best friend Iqbal to set the man's house on fire and kill him while he slept.
The intended victim, Mo Ibrahim - who is no relation to the convicted man - lived at 135 London Road in Blackburn, while the Mohammed family were at 175 London Road.
In the early hours of October 21 last year, Iqbal and his two friends poured petrol through the letter-box of the wrong house and set it alight.
Mr Henriques said in court: "It is a most cruel irony that two such devout members of the community, both deeply religious, should have lost their lives to such a perverted and wicked act."
Ms Gorji, now aged 22, has since started divorce proceedings and during the trial said her relationship with Mr Mo was still ongoing.
