The reason CM Punk was added to the RAW announce team is because Vince McMahon is high on a three-man team. WWE officials are also high on Punk’s broadcast work and didn’t want to keep him off TV while he recovers from the hip injury.

I think Punk is great on the mic so having him as an announcer just makes sense. Now if they would just get rid of Michael Cole.
