SmackDown opened with Kane’s pyro as he came down the ramp, still the world champion. He said Paul Bearer was the one thing that meant more to him than both the title and his own life. He said that Edge last week mentally tortured Paul and used him as bait. Then he taunted Kane with the empty wheelchair at Survivor Series, but Kane is still champion. He said the abduction was unlawful. He said he was willing to not press charges if Edge would bring back Paul Bearer. Bringing ‘realism’ into Kane’s storylines at this point is so stupid. He said he is not what people think he is. He isn’t a freak or monster, that his hardened exterior isn’t the real him. He is a warm caring human being with feelings who wants to be with family for the holidays.

Edge came out with the empty wheelchair to interrupt an utterly bizarre promo. Edge said he also loves the holidays and he will give Paul back if Kane asks politely. Dragged on when Edge made him add ‘please’ etc. Crowd, unprompted, chanted ‘on your knees’. They ignored it to keep on script and eventually Edge said no and left.

Match Number One: Kofi Kingston Vs. Jack Swagger w/ Eagle, KotR Qualifying Match.

Swagger made Kofi tap at Survivor Series, which lead to this paring. Kofi was off the whole match. Swagger started with takedowns before Kofi hit a horribly sloppy series of rollups. Kingston then screwed up a leapfrog spot. Swagger tackled his leg to cover up the spot then went to work on the leg. Kofi clashed with the bird on the apron which let Swagger keep control.

Match then really started to lag with a long middle. Kingston screwed up sending him into the corner, as he tried to set Swagger up across the ropes for a modified boom drop. Swagger caught Kofi off of his top rope splash but Kofi caught Swagger with a boot off of Swagger’s splash. Kofi then looked for his pendulum kick but was caught with the ankle lock. Kofi got out and hit an amazing Trouble in Paradise for the pinfall. He was so bad all match then nailed the finisher.

Winner and KotR Qualifier: Kofi Kingston, Pinfall.

Kane apologised for intimidating Long last week and for wrecking his office. He said Teddy had to be close to his father but Long said he never really knew him. Edge was then shown on the TV is Long’s office. They panned back and he told Kane where he was. He removed Paul’s tape and Bearer said that even if everyone in the arena had fathers they’d still be bastards. Edge rolled him away.

Kane went to where they were and into the men’s room that joined to see the empty wheelchair and a note on the mirror that read “gone fishing”.

Josh in the back was with Alberto Del Rio, who he said was the underdog against Big Show tonight. Del Rio said he learned to never share the spotlight at Survivor Series. He said he would be King Alberto Del Rio.

Match Number Two: Alberto Del Rio Vs. The Big Show, KotR Qualifying Match.

Big Show in another Knucklehead shirt. Big Show was in control for the start before Del Rio avoided the chokeslam and went to work on the leg. He drop kicked it three times. He then hit the running enziguri which is a thing of beauty and another kick to the leg. He went from the flying armbar but Show lifted him up and fell back with him for something like a Samoan drop.

Show threatened the KO punch but Del Rio slipped outside. Show followed and beat him up. Show threw him in at 6 so Ricardo grabbed his leg. Show picked him up and hit the KO punch but was counted out. He just smiled at the result, not caring at all.

Winner and KotR Qualifier: Alberto Del Rio, Count Out.

Edge came out through the crowd and was on a balcony. He said the holidays were about bonding and conversing, and would like to chat to Kane now. Kane came out onto the stage. Edge threatened to push Paul down the stairs and Kane called him a cold blooded monster. Edge said Kane had done this for years and just doesn’t like it done to him. Edge said he would ask the crowd what they’d like him to do with Paul. He polled the crowd – give him back to Kane or shove him down the steps. Kane said all of this was to get Kane to give him another shot at the title and he can have it. Edge said will accept that match and told Kane to come join him at the hotdog stand. Kane ran up the stairs to find an empty wheelchair.

Match Number Three: MVP Vs. Drew McIntyre, KotR Qualifying Match.

MVP’s new music has got to go. Drew was yelling in MVP’s face in the corner before being separated by the ref. This allowed MVP to lay into him. Drew came back on the outside, stomping MVP’s hand on the steel steps. Drew then worked over the arm in and out of the ring. Drew went to recreate the stomp on the steps but was aiming for the head. MVP moved and swept the leg bumping Drew on the apron.

Very little reaction from the crowd which was most noticeable during MVP’s comeback which got no reaction at all. They quietly said ballin’ before Drew got the arm again and hit the Future Shock for the pinfall.

Winner and Qualifier: Drew McIntyre, Pinfall.

Swagger was in the back saying that this was the Eagle’s fault. He said it better straighten up and fly right. They then showed Hornswoggle in an Indian’s outfit being served a burnt meal from Rosa. Hornswoggle saw the Eagle, got his knife and fork and started hunting. Rosa took them from him so he picked up a bow and arrow and shot it.

Lay Cool came out but demanded their music be stopped. They said it was the worst week ever, having their title stolen and being kicked out of Raw. They said they were still flawless.

Match Number Four: Michele McCool w/ Layla Vs Kelly Kelly.

Kelly booted Layla off the apron as she was spraying deodorant and got a roll up on McCool for two. Michelle then quickly took over. Kelly quickly got a roll through for a reversal to get the pinfall.

Winner: Kelly Kelly, Pinfall.

McCool immediately went back on the attack when Beth Phoenix ran down and put a beating on her and Layla before raising Kelly’s hand.

They played a recap of Cena’s last week. They went passed Cena’s involvement to Miz chasing in the briefcase and winning the title.

Match Number Five: Rey Mysterio Vs. Cody Rhodes, KotR Qualifying Match w/ Alberto Del Rio on Commentary.

Del Rio came down the ramp before the bell rang. Cody dodged a kick to the head and went outside to recover. Rey followed him out but Cody got the better of it with his rebounding kick off the steps to the head. Alberto stood still as this happened just in front of him.

Rey came back after Cody put him on the top rope. He hit a seated senton and a splash. Cody pulled the same move that won his match last week, pulling the pants as Rey ran away from him to pull him into the Cross Rhodes. Rey countered though and continued a comeback.

Rey set up for the 619 but Del Rio helped Cody out of position and to the floor. Rey jumped off the apron to hit Cody who ducked and Rey took out Alberto. Back in the ring Cody was pushed into the ref which let Del Rio take out Rey. Cody then hit the Cross Rhodes and the revived ref counted three.

Winner and Qualifier: Cody Rhodes, Pinfall.

Both Cody and Del Rio had big smiles after the pinfall. They then cut to Long in the back as Kane barged in and said he’d had it. Edge wasn’t listening to reason and Long wasn’t helping. He screamed it was all Teddy’s fault.

Edge was back on the monitor and he told Kane he needed some fresh air. He said he was in the parking lot and would give Paul back before there was an accident. Kane left Teddy’s office and ran out to him but a car smashed the wheelchair just before Kane got there. The body in the wheelchair split in two and stuffing went everywhere as it was a dummy. Edge wound down the window to reveal Paul was in the back of the car, said whoops and drove off.

We are live on tape from Jacksonville, Florida and your announcers are Matt ‘Keeping Pay Per View Commentary Interesting since 2009’ Striker, Todd ‘I wish I knew what it was like to do commentary for a pay per view’ Grisham, and Michael ‘On Wednesdays, Miz lets me touch the WWE Title belt’ Cole.

We start things off with the World Champion Kane, who was able to retain the World Title, but there is some controversy over the finish to that match. He comes to the ring to address those issues and Paul Bearer.

He says two weeks ago, Edge abducted the one thing that means more to him than the World Title and his own life. Edge abducted Paul Bearer. Then last week, Edge humiliated him and Paul Bearer in his perverted game of cat and mouse. Edge mentally tortured Paul Bearer by forcing him to play dodge ball and smothering him in pizza and buffalo wings. Worse than all of that, Edge used Paul Bearer as bait to try to lure him into a trap. At Survivor Series, when he thought the ruse was up, Edge taunted him with an empty wheelchair to prevent him from successfully defending his title.

Despite all of this, Kane reminds us that he is still the World Champion. What is Kane without Paul Bearer. He says that this abduction is unprecedented and unlawful. Kane says that he is willing to not press charges and let this whole thing slide. He tells Edge that all he has to do is bring back Paul Bearer. Kane promises not to destroy Edge. He promises not to annihilate Edge. He promises not to eviscerate Edge. Kane says that he is not what Edge thinks he is. He is not a freak. He says that he is not a monster. This hardened exterior is not really him. Kane says that he has feelings. He says that he is a human being and deep down, he is a warm, caring human being who only wants to be with his family for the holidays. Kane says that he loves the holidays. He says that he loves Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukkah, and Kwanzaa. He says that he loves New Year’s too. Kane just wants his father back. He says that he has a great family life . . .

But before we hear about holiday celebrations at the Kane residence, Edge’s music interrupts and he has an empty wheelchair with him.

Edge asks Kane how he is doing. He says that he heard what Kane said and Edge says that he loves the holidays too. Edge says that Paul was sitting in the wheelchair a few minutes ago and if Kane wants him back, all he has to do is ask.

Kane channels Mel Gibson from Ransom and demands that Edge give him back his father, but Edge doesn’t like Kane’s tone of voice. He asks Kane where his manners are and then he says that his daddy’s didn’t teach him any. Edge wants Kane to ask him politely.

Kane obliges and asks for Paul Bearer back. Edge says that Kane didn’t use the magic word. Edge tells Kane to say ‘please’. Kane requests his father back slower and more deliberately than the first two times and he adds the magic word.

Edge thinks about it and he says that was not a proper please. Kane gets humble and asks please. Edge wants to hear Kane say it again while the fans want Kane to ask on his knees. Kane asks one more time and Edge says that it was insincere and Kane didn’t mean a word of it so Edge decides to leave with the wheelchair.

Kane is incensed and we go to commercial.
