Funk singer George Clinton has begun legal proceedings against the Black Eyed Peas for copyright infringement relating to a remix of their song 'Shut Up'.
According to Billboard, Clinton has filed papers that suggest the band failed to gain his permission to use a sample from his 1979 track '(Not Just) Knee Deep'.
The P-Funk founder claims that he rejected the group's proposal to sample the song but later found out that it had already been used in a bonus track on their 2009 album The E.N.D..
Clinton began proceedings in Los Angeles on Friday and is seeking full damages of $150,000 (£94,930) along with an injunction to prevent the Black Eyed Peas continuing to distribute the remix.
