Sharon Osbourne has claimed that Cheryl Cole may struggle to win over America as an X Factor judge.

Osbourne, who judged the UK version of the show for four years, told Now magazine that the role would be better suited to Nicole Scherzinger. Reports have suggested that Cole has been offered a deal to join Simon Cowell on the US version's judging panel when the contest launches next year.

"Cheryl's perfect for England," Osbourne said. "She's the nation's sweetheart and they absolutely love her. But over here [in the US] it's Nicole's town. You have to think of the audience and most of them would never have heard of Girls Aloud."

She continued: "Nicole's great TV, has a huge following here in the States and people absolutely love her. Plus she's beautiful and talented."

However, Osbourne added that Cole stood a chance of achieving success in the country by making it her base for a longer period of time.

"It takes a long time to make it in the States because it’s so huge," she said. "I think she's made the right decision to move out here. She couldn't just come over and do a show then pootle off.

"Cheryl reminds me of Bambi. She's got these big, brown, beautiful eyes and you just want to stroke her."
