IDG News Service - More Yahoo applications and services will be shut down or merged with existing products in the coming months, the company has said.

"Part of our organizational streamlining involves cutting our investment in underperforming or off-strategy products to put better focus on our core strengths and fund new innovation in the next year and beyond," a Yahoo spokeswoman said via e-mail.

According to a Yahoo corporate slide that made the rounds on Twitter on Thursday, the services to be shut down include social bookmarking pioneer Delicious and geolocation tool Fire Eagle.

However, the spokeswoman would only confirm the upcoming demise of the social news site Buzz and Yahoo's Traffic APIs (application programming interfaces).

"We will communicate specific plans when appropriate," she wrote.

Earlier this week Yahoo confirmed it was laying off 600 staffers, or about 4 percent of its global workforce.

Struggling financially for years, Yahoo has been criticized for what its detractors consider a loss of its technology edge. Critics say that the company hasn't been developing innovative products and instead releases "me too" services that try to capitalize belatedly on the popularity of others.
