The Best Car-Driving Openings on TV
Buckle up and shell out for gas money as UGO drives down TV's most classically iconic and Best Car-Driving Opening Credits.
15
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
The wonderfully pleasant opening to It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, driving about town showing off familiar landmarks as the episode's title nicely correlates with the action of the cold open.
14
The Simpsons
You've undoubtedly seen the iconic opening to The Simpsons showcasing Marge and Homer's poor driving a thousand times, from classic to the updated HD version, or even live-action recreations.
13
Knight Rider
With an opening showcasing the best, most turbo-tastic jumps of KITT, I think we were all a little disappointed to grow up and find out that blasting the Knight Rider theme in our cars' radios while taking instructions from a GPS wasn't nearly as cool as it should have been.
12
Back to the Future - The Animated Series
Awesome as it was to see our favorite time-travelling sports car back in action, even if only in animation, something feels really irresponsible of the Doc to let his wife go grocery shopping in the 1880's, while his kids study dinosaurs unprotected, or incapable of escape.
Also, allowing your dog to operate a flying train.
11
Newhart
This opener showcased the beautiful Vermont scenery that would become the basis for Newhart's departure from The Bob Newhart Show, and nicely set the tone for the comedy series.
Except that it was all a dream, and Vermont doesn't exist
10
Hill Street Blues
Steven Bochco's landmark cop drama series always opened with a bevvy of squad cars screaming off to their next emergency, but very few of its prinicpal characters in the sequence ever seemed unnerved by the apparent urgency of their weekly disaster.
9
The Pink Panther
Okay, we were expecting something involving the iconic Pink Panther theme music.
8
Mr. Magoo
Boy, that crochety old man sure didn't care how many lives he endangered behind the wheel, and we loved him all the more for it.
7
The Jetsons
Much as we love the classic Jetsons intro of the family zooming around on a typical day, and loathe giving credit to Seth MacFarlane, it's become much harder to watch the famous clip of Jane taking George's wallet after he dropped her out of the car for it.
6
Taxi
It was a taxi driving. The name of the show was Taxi. It revolved around a taxi company. Simple, direct, and to the point.
We appreciate punctuality in our classic TV.
5
The Flintstones
Now we know they say that The Flintstones are just an animated rip-off of The Honeymooners, but let's be honest. Don't you think the creators of The Honeymooners were kicking themselves for not adding more dinosaurs to the show?
And if the Flintstones managed to move that stone car so quickly with their feet, why wouldn't they just run? And why was Fred so fat?
4
That '70s Show
Instantly catchy and energetic, this classic teen anthem complete with visuals of better days driving around with our friends sold us on the show. Sadly, it lost a bit of its luster when the intro was moved to the basement.
And all the main characters just, well...moved on.
3
The Prisoner
Zooming around London in a sports car at high speeds, wearing only black before winding up gassed in your bedroom. Iconic opening sequence of The Prisoner, or your New Year's Eve?
2
The Sopranos
The famous and memorably catchy intro of Tony Soprano driving home reminded us that for all the Emmy-winning drama and magnificent mob stories, the series contained one famous flaw.
It was set in New Jersey
1
Police Squad!
The infamous "Siren Camera" wouldn't gain notoriety until The Naked Gun film series (did you know that Police Squad! only lasted six episodes?), but the immortal opening reminds us just what a gem this franchise (and its star) were.
Leslie Nielsen, Sergeant Frank Drebin, Detective Lieutenant Police Squad, this one's for you.
